Uy Trending

Privacy Policy

We collect the minimum needed to run the site, and we are open about advertising.

Last updated

This policy explains what personal data Uy Trending collects, how we use it, who we share it with and what choices you have. We follow the Philippine Data Privacy Act of 2012 (Republic Act No. 10173).

What we collect

  • Account details. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address and profile photo. We use them to create your reader profile.
  • Newsletter. Your email address, when you subscribe.
  • Messages. Your name, email address and message when you use the contact form.
  • Community activity. Comments, replies, reactions, saved stories and followed topics. Your display name and photo are shown next to the comments you post. Your email address is never shown.
  • Reading statistics. We count how often each story is read using a keyed hash of your IP address and browser details, stored with the hour of the visit. The IP address itself is not stored with that record.
  • Technical data. Standard server logs such as pages requested, device type and approximate location, kept for security and troubleshooting.

How we use it

To run reader accounts, deliver the newsletter you asked for, answer messages, keep discussions safe, understand which stories readers value, protect the site from abuse and meet our legal duties. We do not sell your personal data.

Advertising and cookies

Uy Trending is supported by advertising. When ads are switched on, we use Google AdSense and may use other advertising partners. These partners may use cookies, device identifiers and similar technologies to show ads, measure them and, where permitted, personalise them based on your visits to this and other sites.

Every advertisement is labelled “Advertisement” and kept apart from our reporting. See how we handle advertising in our editorial policy.

Cookies and local storage we use

  • Essential. A session cookie that keeps you signed in, and a setting in your browser that remembers light or dark mode.
  • Analytics (only when enabled). Google Analytics or Tag Manager to measure traffic.
  • Advertising (only when enabled). Cookies set by our ad partners as described above.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking essential cookies means you cannot stay signed in.

Who we share it with

We use service providers to run the site: Supabase for hosting accounts and content, Google for sign-in, analytics and advertising, and an email provider when the newsletter is sent. They may process data only for the service they provide to us. We may disclose data when the law requires it or to protect the rights and safety of readers and the site.

How long we keep it

Account and community data is kept while your account exists. Newsletter addresses are kept until you unsubscribe. Contact messages are kept for as long as needed to respond and for record-keeping. Reading statistics are kept in aggregate.

Your rights

Under the Data Privacy Act you may ask to be informed about, access, correct, object to the processing of, or erase or block your personal data, and to claim damages if your data was misused. To use any of these rights, contact us from the email address on your account and tell us what you need.

Children

Uy Trending is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal data.
